Beyond the Game: 12 Student-Athletes Connected with Leaders at Valnet and Valsoft

On May 28, we had the pleasure of welcoming 12 student-athletes from St-Laurent High School to the Valnet and Valsoft offices for a half day of learning, inspiration, and networking. For many of the students, the visit offered a first-hand look at industries and career paths they may not have previously considered. It was an opportunity to explore new possibilities, ask questions, and connect with professionals who once faced similar decisions about their education and future careers.
Through Fondation Aléo's bursary program, each student had previously received a $1,500 scholarship from Valsef Dream Big Foundation in recognition of their commitment to both academic and athletic excellence. The visit was designed to expose the students to the many career opportunities available in the digital and technology sectors while connecting them with professionals who once stood where they are today, balancing studies, personal ambitions, and dreams for the future.
The day began with an office tour, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced environments where digital media, finances, M&A and AI software solutions are created and managed.
They then attended presentations from both Valnet and Valsoft, learning about the companies, their growth stories, and the diverse range of careers available across content, marketing, technology, product development, operations, human resources, finance, and leadership.
One of the most impactful parts of the visit was hearing personal stories from employees who generously shared their journeys and lessons learned along the way.
At Valnet, Mars Monnier and Oliver Sanchez spoke about their career paths, educational experiences, and the opportunities that helped shape their professional growth. They shared valuable insights on perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of remaining curious throughout one's career.
Representing Valsoft, Gabriel Dupuis and Laurence Bourgault offered their own perspectives on building a career in the technology industry, highlighting the many different avenues available to students interested in business, software, and innovation.
The students also heard from Veronnik Marcil, General Manager of Valsef Dream Big Foundation, who shared her personal journey, from her academic and professional experiences to her commitment to community impact and philanthropy.
The event concluded with a networking lunch where students had the chance to ask questions, discuss their aspirations, and connect directly with professionals from different fields. Conversations ranged from university choices and career planning to entrepreneurship, leadership, and balancing sports with future ambitions.
